Carbon Enrichment of Austenite during Ferrite-bainite Transformation in Low-alloy-steel

نویسندگان

چکیده

The bainitic transformation kinetics and carbon enrichment of austenite during isothermal holding at 723–923 K were investigated for an Fe-0.1mass%C-0.5mass%Si-2.0mass%Mn alloy. progressed rapidly until approximately 50 s, after which stasis was observed 823 K. concentration increased as the proceeded, showed almost constant value stasis. It reached 0.45-0.50% K, corresponds to T0’ composition with additional strain energy 100 J/mol associated transformation. After stasis, a slight increase in ferrite or fraction observed. also 0.60%, clearly exceeding T0 composition. These results imply that first stage, bainite occurs shows incomplete transformation, following second diffusional proceeds. calculated from due tends decrease temperature increases. This indicates relaxation occurred higher temperatures.

Identification of Retained Austenite, Ferrite, Bainite and Martensite in the Microstructure of TRIP Steel

Transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steels have a vast application in automotive industry because of theirhigh strength, high ductility and hence excellent energy absorption capacity. These characteristics of TRIPsteels are due to the existence of retained austenite in their microstructures in the ambient temperature, whichtransforms to the martensite phase during deforma...

Interpretation of a dilatometric anomaly previous to the ferrite-to-austenite transformation in a low carbon steel

During continuous heating of a cold rolled low carbon (LC) steel a dilatometric anomaly has been detected previous to the well known ferrite-to-austenite transformation. This anomaly is due to the texture change and/or the dislocation annihilation that accompany the recrystallization process.

Examination of carbon partitioning into austenite during tempering of bainite

The redistribution of carbon after tempering of a novel nanocrystalline bainitic steel consisting of a mixture of supersaturated ferrite and retained austenite has been analyzed by atom probe tomography. No direct evidence supporting the additional carbon enrichment of austenite beyond that initially achieved during the bainite heat treatment was obtained during subsequent tempering of this hig...

Lattice Misfit between Inclusion and Acicular Ferrite in Weld Metal of Low Carbon Low Alloy Steel

To clarify the mechanism of acicular ferrite formation in low carbon submerged arc weld metals of a Ti-B system with different aluminum contents, the lattice misfit between inclusion and acicular ferrite was investigated. The inclusions were directly sliced into thin foils by a focused ion beam device and crystallographic analyses were performed using a transmission electron microscope. These i...

STRAIN INDUCED AUSTENITE-TO-FERRITE TRANSFORMATION BEHAVIOR OF PLAIN CARBON STEELS THROUGH SINGLE PASS ROLLING

In principal, a proper combination of strength and ductility is achieved through micro component refinement in steels. This is particularly empowered with ferrite refinement down to micron sizes in ferrite pearlite engineering steels. The latter is achieved through various well-defined methods in which strain induced transformation (SIT) has shown spectacular capabilities. In the present study,...
